As the first small business coffee review of the site, this coffee did not disappoint. These days, you can go into almost any grocery store and find cheaply made mass-produced coffee. However, while there are some great brands out there, much of these popular brands of coffee taste the same. Bland and boring. However, this Shepherd’s Crook Coffee Caramel, Nutty & Chocolate coffee blend provides a much-needed variety that will make your coffee life more exciting! Furthermore, you know that what you are getting here is FRESHLY MADE, from personally roasted high quality coffee beans. You can be confident that this coffee hasn’t been sitting around on the shelves at the grocery store for months (or maybe longer…)
If you’re new to the Caffeinated Chemist Coffee Reviews site, I try and upload honest reviews on a plethora of different coffee blends. For whole bean blends, I always manually hand grind the beans to ensure the most consistent ground size that leads to the highest quality cup. If interested in one of the cheapest, but effective manual grinders, see: Affordable Coffee Bean Grinder. Additionally, I use my favorite coffee brewing technique: the pour over method (more on this fast, affordable coffee brewing method here! What’s the Best Way to Brew your Coffee?? Note: Currently, Amazon is having a great sale on this pour over brewer here: ) I use the same brewing techniques for all my reviews to remain consistent and fair.
So how did this blend taste?
I have yet to see another blend that offers these three, unique but pronounced flavors into one blend. When focusing on each of the flavors individually, you can really taste the crisp caramel, the woody nut flavor, and the light chocolate flavor; the three flavors together give this overall blend a feel of drinking something like an exotic mocha. While sipping on the freshly made brew, I noticed that the coffee had a very viscous body. The sign of a great coffee. When first opening the bag, there was an amazing smelling aroma that I couldn’t quite place. But after brewing the coffee, I found that some of that aroma seemed to be lacking. Maybe it was just the bag I got, but this does not detract from the overall flavor of the cup. Examining the beans you can see each of the three different coffee beans due to their slight color variations. This is something that you do not often get to see from regular mass-produced coffees! Additionally, the coffee was bold but not overly strong nor too acidic. Very well-balanced.
Overall, if you are looking for a coffee blend to spice up your every-day cup, try this chocolate, caramel, and nutty home-brewed blend as a treat. In the process, you also get to help support a small business located in Strafford, MO. Check out their Facebook page here: Shepherd’s Crook Coffee Facebook Page. You will not be disappointed!!
