Folger’s Breakfast Blend Coffee

I was pleasantly surprised by Folger’s Breakfast Blend Coffee. I was expecting the typical weak, acidic blend that too many breakfast blends share. Let’s face it if you are looking at Folger’s coffees you are probably more concerned about affordability over quality. However,  you may find you actually get both with this blend as it has low acidity, is well-balanced, and actually has good flavor! And for the price, you simply can’t beat it.

The roast levels on Folger’s coffees tend to be darker than labeled with their medium roasts being closer to dark roast, and their dark roasts closer to burnt… As a mild roast, this Breakfast Blend leans toward the medium roast side of things. Unlike most of the other roasts from this company, you can taste the subtle flavors and it has a very smooth but full body.  It has a fairly earthy/woody taste that results in a slightly smoky flavor. While the smoky flavor may be a turn off to some, I personally didn’t find it overpowering and thought it was alright. But I could definitely see myself getting tired of it in the long-run.

Let’s talk aroma. The whiff of aroma you get after peeling back the packaged aroma seal is simply AMAZING. But after brewing the grounds that amazing scent goes away and leaves a slightly stale/musty scent to it. I’m not sure how the dry grounds lose all of their aromas after pouring water on them, but I’m just reporting my personal experience.

Overall, this is a very affordable blend that has a soothingly smooth, mild flavor that is very pleasant. I would definitely buy this coffee again! For the price range, I think this is a great choice. However, just know that this is not supposed to be a specialty, super-expensive blend. At the end of the day, it is just another Folger’s coffee, albeit, a good one at that.
